Kids Back in School?Β  Here are two ways for women in particular to get back into something for themselves professionally

At Hay There Social Media, we think of Back-to-school season as “Back-to-YOU” season. πŸŽπŸ˜‡

Oh summer…such a special time to be a kid…and a parent…so many fun days in the sun and opportunities to make memories but we completely get the fire drill of organizing camps, playdates and just straight up kid coverage to allow you some room to focus on what you need to get done.

But now that the kids are back to a routine, it can free up some precious bandwidth to focus on work you need to do, want to do, or even give you the space to consider “what’s next” professionally.

Hay There Founder, Emily A. Hay, was on CBS News Detroit recently talking about how moms that want to get back to themselves have 2 immediate opportunities to do so through:
1) Freelance work.
2) Upskilling.

Why Freelance Work?

Are you someone who has a “resume gap” from being a full-time caregiver? Perhaps you would like to do something flexible but are unsure where to start. If so, we get it. By freelancing, you can start down the entrepreneurial highway using the skills you have and by finding project-based work that puts your “work experience” in “active status” right away. Bye-bye, resume gap!

NOTE: A proven way to be successful as a freelance professional is to have a specialty; that way, you can hone in on what services you deliver and price your fees accordingly. Furthermore, Emily A. Hay and Ali Spitzer of Hay There co-authored an article for Fast Company that talked about the nuances of freelancing and what should be learned in order to avoid mistakes.

What is Upskilling?

In the CBS News story, Emily shares that upskilling is essentially polishing current skills you have and/or obtaining new ones with a specific purpose. Perhaps you worked in marketing or sales but would like a specialty now in social media marketing to be able to have your own clients or to be able to work for a company part-time in an in-demand field like digital marketing. Spoiler: you don’t have to invest a ton of money or time to be able to upskill yourself. Luckily it’s 2023 and there are plenty of accessible sites such as Upwork and LinkedIn learning with free courses and offerings to polish your skills and learn more in areas like video editing, SEO and email marketing.

Since 2009, Hay There Social Media’s speciality is social media marketing, so that is the focus of our proven training programs. (See how some of the women that learned from us are doing work as social media professionals today and thriving like Nicole, Kimberly, and Amanda.)

Hay There offers 2 ways to help women wanting to do freelance work and/or to upskill themselves.

At Hay There Social Media, we have built our offerings to empower women to achieve what we call the “3 Fs” and you deserve them, too: Flexibility, Fulfillment and Financial gain. (We understand all too well the demands and pressures of the mental load from our Founder, Emily A. Hay’s, experience on the Fair Play Documentary produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom and based off Eve Rodsky’s NY Times Bestselling Book, “Fair Play.”)
