Have you ever built a life around a dream that you achieved, but when you got there you realized it wasn’t a healthy place for you?

Just over a year ago, my doctor put me on leave from a dream that I had been living and fought to achieve for over 3 decades.  I was in an unhealthy place and I didn’t even realize just how unhealthy it really had become.  My anxiety was the highest it had ever been and my physical health had begun to completely shut down.  The months that followed were some of the most difficult I had ever faced- I was moving less than 500 steps a day, I needed help dressing and showering myself, and I was in a lot of pain and discomfort.  Not to mention I was sobbing regularly… sometimes I would share this with my husband while other times, I hid it because I felt like a burden.

But the Universe has a way of answering our prayers in unexpected ways.

I was told I needed to retire and some may think my story ends there.  I am sure some thought I would retire, eat bon bons, and paint all day everyday.  And while painting everyday all day seems amazing… realities of the future forced me to make some bigger decisions.

With healthcare costs, health insurance increases, and costs of living all a necessity,  I needed to evaluate, plan, and act!   I worried for months about our financial future but worry creates chaos and while I lived most of my life in chaos,  I needed a different path.

So I did some reflection and research on what opportunities might generate income but allow me to always put my health first!  And after teaching for decades, what skills did I have that could translate to a field that would be fun but a lot less stressful too!  A friend shared with me about a woman based company called Hay There Social Media  and when I researched the company I was impressed.   They help women- especially Moms- find a path to work life integration as social media professionals.

After six weeks of amazing training with Emily A. Hay, the CEO of Hay There and crawling out of a deep hole, I am starting over.   I am starting my own business as a Social Media Strategist and Creative.  I can’t work full time (my health and my doctor won’t let me)… but I can still make a difference while focusing on my health AND contributing to our family income.

I am just starting out and I am starting slow… but I would love to share what I do,  how the Hay There program works, or how I might help small to medium size businesses or solopreneurs market, manage, and build their online community.   I promise I will still be painting and creating….so I will definitely share some fresh art with you next time!!

I will leave you with one last thought…

“It’s your reaction to adversity, not adversity itself that determines how your life’s story will develop.” ~Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Adversity is part of life and God knows it has been a common theme in mine.  But HOW we react to the challenges we face makes all the difference in whether we live a life that we love or are overcome by the struggles we face.
